AMD promises 32 nm by the end of next year

According to Information Week, AMD for the first time confirmed that it intends to submit samples of the first 32 nm processors by the middle of next year, and their serial production will start to in the IV quarter of 2010. This statement was made by Dirk Meyer (Dirk Meyer), Chief Executive Officer of AMD during a 30-minute interview with Information Week, which took place on Friday, a day before yesterday.

Apparently, AMD has not been able to reduce its backlog of Intel in the development of more subtle processes. According to some analysts, in this regard AMD behind Intel for six months or even years. As is known, already in the IV quarter of this year, Intel will launch the production of processors in accordance with technological standards 32 nm, and one of them - Westmere. Generally, the thinner production methods, the more powerful processor. Moreover, the transition to a more subtle production methods to achieve reduction of energy consumption of processors.

It should be noted that at the front graphics processor (GPU) AMD has made significant progress with the help of ATI. It is no secret that the "Green Team", as AMD is often called himself, develops a more subtle technological processes much faster and better than NVIDIA. But in the processor (CPU) does the company behind his devoted competitor, which is also much stronger financially. Despite the infusion of money from Arab sheikhs and its abandonment of its own production of chips through the creation of Foundry Co., The financial position of the AMD is still very heavy. Only in IV quarter of last year the company incurred losses of 1.4 billion U.S. dollars.
