Poulsbo - now officially

Intel family of processors continues to update the Atom. According to Electronista, yesterday processor giant officially announced the release of a new series - Z500. It is possible that you have heard about these chips, because until recently they were known under the code-named Poulsbo. In fact, this is the first chip Intel, specifically designed for mobile embedded systems. According to Intel, all chips from this series are a One-chip (System-On-Chip) and have not only integrated graphics, but the integrated input and output.

Poulsbo processors do not require active cooling and can operate at temperatures up to 70 degrees Celsius. Their power (TDP) of only 2 W, a power system as a whole does not exceed 5 Watts. As utverzhaet Intel, the chips from this series is ideally suited for the so-called Media Phone. In the terminology is something between the Intel Mobile Internet Devices (MID) and Netbook. In the standard version, proposed by Intel, Media Phone is as follows: 1 GB RAM, 8 GB Flash memory, 8.9-inch touch-sensitive display, 5 port USB, Ethernet, HDMI. The idea, he should be able to play videos from YouTube and to work in mobile networks and VoIP.

While the line is represented Poulsbo 5 models - Z510, Z510P, Z520, Z530 and Z530P. The first two models are virtually identical: the nominal clock frequency of 1.1 GHz, FSB 400, 512 KB cache L2. The only difference between them is size and TDP. Processor Z510P a little more on the size (22 square meters. Mm) and has a TDP 2,2 Watts. For comparison, Z510 size of 13 × 14 mm, and its TDP - 2 W. With regard to model Z520, it has a TDP 2,2 W, the nominal clock frequency of 1.3 GHz. It should be noted that the processor supports FSB 533. The latter two models, Z530 and Z530P, in essence, no different from the Z510 and Z510P, but operate at a higher frequency - 1.6 GHz.

If everything goes according to plan, supply Z500 Poulsbo will begin this spring. According to preliminary estimates, Apple has been actively developing mobile devices based on the Poulsbo, as well as Silverthorne. On the other hand, Apple will continue to cooperate with ARM, so it is unlikely to expect the emergence of iPhone or iPod Touch based on Z500.
