ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4860 brags fast memory

According to data from the GPU Cafe and several independent sources, the new mobile graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4860 is ready, and soon AMD will introduce her to court users. This card is made in the MXM form factor and is equipped with memory chips GDDR5 5GT / s by Qimonda - IDGV1G-05A1F1C-50X. At the moment this is the fastest in the world of memory chips, and they have the bandwidth 5Gbayt / s for each contact. Please note: the latest figures (50) and the letter X refers to the bandwidth for each contact - 5GT / s or 5 Gb / s in one direction. For comparison, the figure for the most powerful card from NVIDIA, which, incidentally, is based on a core 55 nm G92b, GeForce GTX 280 is only 60.8 GB / s, and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 - 56,8 GB / s . The last card, among other things, based on the core of M98.

Apparently, AMD / ATI is also going to use these memory chips in graphics cards for desktop systems. In fact, the modules IDGV1G-05A1F1C-40X (4 GT / s) already used in the engineering samples of RV790. But Qimonda is not the only manufacturer of memory chips DRAM, which can boast of such fast chips. As you know, back in November last year, Hynix announced its intention to begin serial production of chips GDDR5 7 GT / s. If everything goes strictly according to plan, the first such chips will appear by the end of II quarter of this year.
